From preventing drunk driving to keeping your loyalty cards all in one place, NY1's Adam Balkin takes a look at the latest app offerings in this week's "App Wrap."

"You The Man," "Last Call"

Add New York City to the growing list of states and independent software developers who've created mobile phone apps to help cut down on drunk driving. New York's "You the Man" App starts out with a little Twister looking board that allows you and your drinking buddies to spin to see who will be the designated driver. It will then help you determine how intoxicated you are based on how much you weigh, what you're drinking, and how long you've been drinking. You can then, especially if it determines you're probably drunk, find the nearest car service to call for a ride home. The "Last Call" app works in a similar way only instead of just being able to find the nearest cab, it will also help you find the nearest lawyer if you decided that should be your one phone call from the slammer.

Those two are for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and are free. You can also find Blood Alcohol Content estimators on Blackberries and Androids, just do a search in the app
store for BAC.

And doesn't quite have to do with driving, but does concern your car keys. If yours are like mine, they're sometimes hard to get to because of all your loyalty cards. You can instead just store and use them all via apps like "CardStar." Simply choose the type of card -- grocery store, drug store, etc -- then choose the specific store and enter in the bar code number that's listed on your card and voila, you have an instant digital version. You then have to hand your phone over and trust it to the checkout clerk for a few seconds. There are a few of these on every phone, some cost a bit but allow you to just take snapshots of your cards in order to store them.

CardStar is free and available on Android phones, Blackberries, and iPhones.
