Two men are dead and a person of interest is in custody following what police sources believe was an attempted robbery in the Bronx early Friday morning.
The New York City Police Department says it happened shortly before 5 a.m. on Rombouts Avenue near Light Street in Eastchester.
Police say they found two men who appear to have been shot inside of a car.
Jermaine Johnson, 28, who was shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victim, 23-year-old Kaiison Lewis, was shot in the torso and later pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital.
Police sources believe the two deceased men may have been trying to rob a man when he pulled out a gun and shot them as they tried to flee.
Neighborhood residents say the street where the shootings took place is a magnet for criminal activity.
"To wake up to something like this is devastating, it is, it is, and especially with the children. I became afraid when I said I had to go downstairs and go to the door, you don't know whether the shots is gonna come in," said one resident.
"It's disgusting, because the summer's not even here yet and this is what we have to look forward to. To the point where we don't come out in our backyards because you don't know who could be in your backyard. So it's scary," said another resident.
Police sources say detectives recovered two guns at the scene.
