It's taken nearly 20 years but the national lighthouse museum will finally become a reality in St. George.

Organizers say they have raised enough money to open the museum.

Back in June, the city's Economic Development Corporation agreed to let the not-for-profit lease the space and open the museum in the former U.S. Coast Guard building if they could raise $350,000.

The fundraising deadline was extended to December 30 and thanks to a public and private donations that goal has been reached.

Organizers say they will continue to seek contributions, which will be used to make sure the targeted opening date of August 7, 2014 occurs.

That's National Lighthouse Day.
