They've dreamed of putting a national lighthouse museum on the north shore of Staten Island, and now, organizers are rushing to raise enough money by December 30 to meet the fundraising goal that would allow them to finally open the museum.
Back in June, the city's Economic Development Corporation agreed to let organizers lease the space and open the museum if they could raise $350,000.
Organizers now say that they are just $25,000 short of that goal and they're hoping that people will be in the giving spirit this season.
"This is about lighthouses," said Linda Dianto, executive director of the National Lighthouse Museum. "They are icons in this country, and they need to be talked about, they need to be preserved, people need to be educated about them, and that's what we're all about."
