Four-time Grammy winner and pop music powerhouse Annie Lennox is giving fans something new to listen to. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.
She has one of the most soulful, celebrated and successful voices in pop music. After nearly 40 years on stage, Annie Lennox continues to put a spell on us with her one of a kind vocals.
"I’ve never been a smoker, if you really want to know some health tips folks, about how to keep your chops well. I’ve never smoked. I drinked in moderation," says Lenox.
The Scottish pop/soul singer/songwriter is in town to promote her new album Nostalgia. It's a selection of favorites from the great American songbook.
"My approach was basically to strip the songs right down to voice and piano when I first started to transcribe them down to the sort of chords that I wanted to use with them and the atmosphere that I wanted to draw out from those songs. Now a lot of those jazz songs have got blues roots and I think my vocal style has always been influenced by R&B and soul and blues, and so I tried to go a little bit deeper," notes Lenox.
Lennox of course topped the charts in the 80's as half of the duo Eurythmics and later as a successful solo artist.
Fans can check out Lennox at the Union Square Barnes and Noble on Tuesday for an album signing.
"So there’s a few decades of albums that they might want, they often bring with them, and people get very emotional because in actual fact music is the backdrop of your life, and it’s very touching for me," says Lenox.
Lenox is also a champion of many social causes including advocating for the rights of women and children around the world. She continues to enchant us with her voice, her passion, and her humanity.
