Months after Harlem residents first told NY1 about an empty lot in their neighborhood that has become a dumping ground, the eyesore still has not been developed. NY1's Susan Jhun filled the following NY1 For You follow-up report.

Residents in an Harlem neighborhood are tired of seeing a nearby vacant lot.

"It’s desolate. You see open piping, you see trash, a lot of trash has been dumped inside and nothing has been done about it," says neighbor Lareina Phelan.

"Besides the parking issues that this is causing, and I think just looking down there, it’s not a pleasant scene," says resident Fredy Mfuko.

NY1 first reported about the huge vacant lot on East 126th Street back in July. It was supposed to be under construction but neighbors told NY1 it became a dumping ground.

"It always has glass back there, garbage. People come by and just drop by and dump garbage, people hang out behind the gate. In the summertime, maybe even sleep there," says neighbor Fredrick Muldrow.

Frustrated neighbors say the lot has been in this condition for years, with no signs of any development.

"They will come when I complain, they will come and clean the garbage up, and that will be that. Then the garbage will pile up again," says Muldrow.

After residents contacted NY1, the station found the lot was on the Department of Buildings' Stalled Sites List since 2009.

NY1 called the owner, RCGL 125th Street LLC, repeatedly for comment but has not heard back.

The station did get in contact with the contractor, Ross Associates LLC. At the time, the project manager said the contractor would be starting construction soon, but when he was asked when, he said he did not know. The project manager said he would check out the condition of the site and get back to NY1.

Now, four months later with no change, neighbors want answers.

"Either build on it or, you know, close it up. Do something, I don’t know. Just do something, make it safe," says Muldrow.

NY1 will continue to follow this story.
