Skincare For Every Decade
In Your 20s
Q: I have blemishes and oily skin. Do I still need moisturizer?
A: Yes, you do. Hydration is a vital step in any skincare routine, and a good moisturizer keeps skin hydrated, which makes skin cells plumper and improves luster. Look for sheer lotions that add moisture without adding unwanted shine. Use products with salicylic acid, as this will help keep blemishes at bay.
Recommendation: Celeb derm Dr Brandt’s Blemishes No More Oil-Free Hydrator. $35 at DrBrandtSkinCare.com.
It's a super-lightweight daily moisturizer with salicylic acid and hydroporine (hydrates without oil or shine) that clears blemishes and unclogs pores without causing irritation or dryness.
In Your 30s
Q: My eyelashes are not as full and thick as they used to be.
A: Lashes get more sparse and weaken due to age, so look for over-the-counter lash treatments that help lengthen, darken and curl.
Recommendation: Lipocils from Talika. $55 at Sephora.com.
Developed more than 60 years ago, with plant extracts, this treatment protects and strengthens the epidermis around the lashes’ root to help encourage stronger growth. Double applicator: a tip to apply gel to lash roots and brush for applying product to lashes.
In Your 40s
Q: What can help me with fine lines and wrinkles?
A: Look for anti-aging products with antioxidants and firming peptides over the counter that have been clinically proven to visibly improve lines and wrinkles.
Recommendation: Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum. $23 at Target.com.
Celeb dermatologist Dr Lori Brightman at Laser & Skin Surgery Center loves a daily serum application of Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect; proven in double-blind clinical trials to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and show a marked improvement in 70% of the volunteers. One bottle is sold every eight seconds at Target.
In Your 50s
Q: I have puffy eyes and dark circles. What can I do?
A: There's a number of reasons for puffy eyes: allergies, water retention. Take an anti-histamine helps with allergies, or try an eye roller to decrease puffiness. Stimulate the circulation to allow built up fluid to diminish.
Recommendation: Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Roller. $13 at drugstores.
Two-in-one eye roller that works to correct and combat dark circles. Caffeine and lemon essence to stimulate, smooth and brighten. Tinted mineral pigments to help conceal illuminating shadows.
